OK, so here it is the end of Winter Quarter. All the tests are done, all the grades are being computed. Time for a little rest and relaxation, right? No way! I'm in the middle of my own online class with Northcentral University, plus I'll be here supporting students and getting some stuff done at the college. Yeah, I may take a day or two during the next two weeks, but I'm always available...my students know that. Speaking of Northcentral University...
One of the assignments this past week was to comment on collaborative systems across the World Wide Web. Well, one of the collaborative systems is a blog! I thought I'd pass along some thoughts on blogging and the practical application within a class setting.
Let's say that we are talking about some facet of the computer industry...how about Microsoft operating systems and release schedules? I could post links to Microsoft's web site, wax prolific on the pluses and minuses of release schedules in general, and comment on aggressive production to meet those schedules. Then I would ask you to head for your trusty Word program (hmmm...Microsoft) and give me your take on the release schedules and delivery systems Microsoft has in place for new products.
While this really doesn't seem to be a collaborative effort, it really is! You've read my blog, which is information that is not discussed within the confines of curriculum and classes, and I've asked you to write a small opinion paper on my views vs. your conclusions. Yep, collaboration. There are so many options available for collaborative efforts for not only us dusty academics, but for you students as well. Set up a Nicenet page to work on a project with others. Join a Ning to get information that may not make the front web page of your local college website. Join Blogger and post your thoughts out here too! Hey, it not just for instructors...it's for students too!
Until next time...be safe, and I'll see you in class!
